Was Raffaele Sollecito Trying to Leave Italy After Guilty Verdict?

Former boyfriend and Amanda Knox trial co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito was detained by police in northeastern Italy early this morning for fear that he would flee the country after the court that convicted him and Amanda Knox in the murder of Meredith Kercher the previous day deemed that there was a “real and present” danger that he would try to leave.

Though he was not arrested, a police spokesman in the town of Udine stated “He has been cautioned that he is forbidden to leave the country. His passport has been taken away from him and his identity card has been stamped to show that he must not leave Italy.”
