Hybristophilia? “What is it?” you ask. Well, it’s defined as: “a paraphilia of the predatory type in which sexual arousal, facilitation, and attainment of orgasm are responsive to and contingent upon being with a partner known to have committed an outrage, cheating, lying, known infidelities or crime, such as rape, murder, or armed robbery.” It’s also known as “Bonnie & Clyde” syndrome. And no…not this Bonnie & Clyde, the more dangerous kind. In other words, people who seek out relationships with those who have committed the worst kind of crimes.
This Valentine’s Day Crime Feed looks to those who stood by their Man, or in other cases, their Manson. And make sure to check out Forget You Week, continuing tonight at 8/7c as well as the premiere of 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover tomorrow night at 10/9c, only on Investigation Discovery!
“He’s kind, he’s funny, he’s charming,” she said. “I think he’s really a great person. He’s my best friend; he’s my buddy.”
We start our list off with the wife of Richard “The Night Stalker” Ramirez. Ramirez a serial killer, rapist, burglar is most famous for his home invasion crime spree that lasted from June 1984 until August 1985, and terrorized residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco. While incarcerated he started to receive about 75 letters from Lioy, starting in 1985. She was a Catholic, he was a Satanist. Religious differences aside, in 1988 he proposed and they were wed on October 3, 1996 in a San Quentin State Prison visiting room while he was on Death Row awaiting execution. Lioy called her life “lonely” as her family and friends disowned her for her choice of spouse. She had stated that if Ramirez were to be executed that she’d commit suicide. Lioy remained his wife until he died in prison due to complications from lymphoma in July of 2013.
“Yeah, well, people can think I’m crazy,” she likes to say. “But they don’t know. This is what’s right for me. This is what I was born for.“
Next up is a woman only known as “Star.” The 25-year-old was given this name by Charles Manson. Manson is best known for being the leader of “The Manson Family.” Manson was found guilty of conspiracy to commit the murders of seven people, actress Sharon Tate and four other people at Tate’s home, and a married couple, Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Even though the murders were committed by members of Manson’s “family” Manson himself influenced members to commit the crimes, thus being guilty of joint-responsibility. “Star” started writing Manson when she was 19-years-old and in 2007 she moved to Corcoran, CA to be closer to him, spending up to five hours at a time every Saturday and Sunday at Corcoran State Prison. In a show of solidarity? love? insanity? She carved an “X” into her forehead to match Manson’s infamous swastika. She recently told the press “I’ll tell you straight up, Charlie and I are going to get married…” But Manson seemed to have an opposing view: “We’re just playing that for public consumption.”
Sneed Menendez & Anna eriksson Menendez
“He’s just sweet and kind and generous.” said Eriksson in an People Magazine interview.
In November 2003, 33-year-old magazine editor Sneed married Lyle Menendez in a maximum security visiting area of Mule Creek State Prison. Menendez is best known for, with the help of his brother Erik, killing their wealthy parents with a shot-gun in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. Menendez had known Sneed for 10 years before being engaged to first wife Anna Eriksson. Menendez married long-time pen pal and former Playboy model Eriksson in 1996. The marriage lasted only a year, they divorced on April 1, 2001 (no April Fools) because Eriksson was not happy that Lyle was “cheating” on her by writing to another woman.
4. Tammi Ruth
“I just came to the conclusion that I never wanted to be without Erik,” said Tammi “I know that is hard for people to understand.“
In June 1999 35-year-old Saccoman married the other Menendez brother, Erik at Folsom State Prison in a waiting room. Tammi first fell for Erik in 1993 when she watched him during his highly publicized trail for his parents murder. She felt sympathy for him and decided to start writing him letters. They started corresponding about once a month and after she found out that her current husband was having an on-going sexual relationship with her daughter, (his step-daughter) starting when she was 15-years-old, and Hernandez comforted her. In 1997 they met in-person for the first time, and Menendez persuaded Tammi to move closer to him in Sacramento. The following year he proposed. Tammi has written a book about her relationship with Erik “They Said We’d Never Make It,” and you can buy it for the low, low, price of 1¢ here.
“I don’t have to explain anything about anyone to anybody.” she told a reporter when asked about her pregnancy.
Former Washington State DES coworker Boone married Bundy during his trial for the murder of Kimberly Leach in a 1980 Orlando courtroom…while she was on the stand. Bundy was permitted to question Boone and he popped her The Question. She responded “I do hereby marry you.” Boone had arranged for a notary public to be present in the courtroom, so legally the marriage held up because of an obscure Florida law. You can watch the proposal below:
Ted Bundy is best known for being a serial killer, rapist, kidnapper, and necrophile. Any parent’s dream! He assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s and possibly earlier. The two started dating while he went through his legal proceedings in Florida. Boone had a child, allegedly conceived in the Visiting Area of Death Row, in 1982 with Bundy named Rose. The happy Bundy family wasn’t meant to be as one day she finally realized that he actually killed people and the two divorced three years later. Boone took her daughter, changed their names, and went into hiding.
In 1986 Kizuka married Angelo Buono, Jr. in Folsom State Prison. It was his fourth, her second. The two had met when she was there visiting her then-husband and father of her three children who spent five months in a cell next to Buono’s while serving a term for assault with a deadly weapon in 1983. She obviously has a thing for “bad boys.” Buono is best known for being a serial killer, rapist, and kidnapper. He, along with his cousin Kenneth Bianchi are better known as “The Hillside Stranglers.” Together Buono and Bianchi killed girls and women ranging in age from 12 to 28 years old during a four-month period from late 1977 to early 1978 in the hills above Los Angeles. Because of these crimes, Buono and Kizuka would never consummate their marriage. They remained married until Buono’s death by heart attack in 2002.
7. Samantha Scheibe
“[He] never pointed a gun at or toward my face in a threatening manner.” Moreover, she says, “I want to be with George.”
We now turn to girlfriend of infamous George Zimmerman, the man who fatally shot teenager, Travon Martin. Scheibe has reportedly known Zimmerman for several years and met through a high school classmate, Wesley Robinson. Zimmerman and Scheibe have been living together since August. She was with him during his last arrest when his wife Shellie called police after a confrontation at her parents’ home. When Scheibe’s friends found out that she was dating Zimmeman they told her to dump him, fearing that she wouldn’t be able to control his anger. Her friends were right, and on November 18, 2013 she called the cops alleging that after she had asked Zimmerman to leave her home, he had pointed a shotgun at her and begun breaking her belongings. She eventually ended up lifting the restraining order she had placed against him, and asked that the charges against him be dropped. They were most recently seen picking up his
cache of guns personal effects together in December. No word on what she thinks about his blossoming art or boxing careers.
9. Rachelle Louise
“(He told me) he was defending himself … You know, I don’t condone what he did. But it happened.” she said in an recent interview with Australia’s Channel 7.
24-year-old Louise, a freelance actress and model, is currently the girlfriend of Simon Gittany, the man who was convicted of throwing his fiancee, former ballerina Lisa Harnum, off the balcony of his 15th floor apartment in Sydney, Australia in 2011. Louise, who looks identical to Harnum knew Gittany for five years before he proposed to Harnum but they only started dating in October of 2012. Apparently she knew him well enough to state that “…I know he didn’t do it.” Louise even went as far as to testify at his second sentence hearing and declared that Gittany was “the best boyfriend I have ever had.” She recently sat down with Australia’s Channel 7 for an exclusive interview, being paid a reported $150,000. She is currently giving up her career as a banker to become an actress and screenwriter. Her first script? A recount of Harnum’s murder.
