March 14th – The Baltimore Sun reports that Columbia mall shooter Darion Marcus Aguilar was so “enthralled” with the Columbine school massacre that he timed his shooting to begin at 11:14am, the same time that Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris began their rampage. During a press conference this week Howard County Police Chief Bill McMahon also revealed that Aguilar did not have any connections to the two Zumiez employees, Brianna Benlolo, 21, and Tyler Johnson, 25, that he killed.
January 27th – The gunman has been identified as Darion Marcus Aguilar (pictured above), of College Park, MD. There is still no known motive as to why the 19-year-old walked into the skate shop and fired sixteen shots with a Mossburg 12-gauge shotgun, killing two and injuring five people before turning the gun on himself. It has also been revealed that Aguilar was carrying more ammunition and a backpack containing homemade explosives made out of fireworks.
Police also say that he had no criminal record and are baffled as to why Aguilar who was described as tall, skinny and quiet would do such a thing. He was interested in skateboarding and hung out with other skaters.
The Colombia Mall will re-open today at 1pm and there will be two memorials held to honor the deceased.
Jan 25 – Just before lunchtime on Saturday a man with a shotgun entered a mall in suburban Maryland and opened fire, killing two employees at the Zumiez skate shop.
Police said the man believed to be the shooter is also dead. Five people were injured.
The shop employees have been identified as Brianna Benlolo, 21, of College Park, Md., and Tyler Johnson, 25, of Ellicott City, Md.
“We do not know yet what caused the shooting incident,” Howard County Police Chief William J. McMahon said at a press conference. “We do not have a motive.”
