Former New England Patriot tight end, Aaron Hernandez, was indicted this morning by a Grand Jury. CNN reports that the felonious footballer has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the July 2012 drive-by-shootings of Daniel Abreu, 28, and Safiro Furtado, 29. Hernandez is expected to be arraigned as early as next week.
In a press conference, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said:
“Mr. de Abreu and Mr. Furtado were ambushed and executed as they drove home along Shawmut Avenue in Boston’s South End in the early morning hours of July 16, 2012…Aaron Hernandez [sic] fired a .38-caliber revolver multiple times from the driver’s side of his vehicle into the passenger’s side of the victims’ vehicle.”
The 24-year-old athlete is currently being held without bail while awaiting trial for the June 2013 death of 27-year-old semipro football player, and ex-boyfriend of the sister of Hernandez’ fiancee, Odin Lloyd, in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. First Assistant District Attorney Bill McCauley believes that Hernandez“drove the victim to the remote spot, and then he orchestrated his execution.”
