Very soon one will be able to add the title “husband” and “father” to that of “convicted murderer” as Joran Van Der Sloot is set to marry his 5-months pregnant fiancée Leydi Carol Figueroa Uceda on May 22nd, according to CBS News. It appears that “things are shaping up nicely for the civil marriage.”
Van Der Sloot attained international notoriety after emerging as the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, for which he was arrested more than once but somehow managed to escape prosecution, despite some pretty damning circumstantial evidence and a hidden camera interview for Dutch TV in which he pretty much admits to being responsible for her disappearance.
Five years later to the day of Holloway’s disappearance Van Der Sloot beat Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramírez, to death in his hotel room in Lima, Peru, apparently because she was on his laptop discovering who he really was. This time the evidence against him was overwhelming, and he confessed, and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison.
In an exclusive interview with CBS’s Crimesider Figuroa Uceda revealed that she met Van Der Sloot when she went with her cousin to visit another inmate, and that the inmate “acted as a matchmaker for Figueroa and van der Sloot, and since then Figueroa has been visiting the prison twice a week. She says she always brings home-cooked meals to her husband-to-be.”
