An uncle babysitting his niece is now charged with murder for allegedly stabbing the 1-year-old in the stomach. NBC Connecticut says Arthur Hapgood, 36, is now charged with murder with special circumstances, first-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a minor.
On Monday evening, police say they were called to a home in Bristol after 1-year-old Zaniyah Calloway was injured. To make matters worse, according to reports, police say there was an 11-year-old home at the time as well. Fox Connecticut said that child was not injured.
By the time authorities arrived to the house, according to NBC, Hapgood was still there, he met police on the porch and was naked. NBC said, “When police arrived, a resident ran to them carrying a small child.”
Although Zaniyah was treated immediately on the scene and even flown out to a nearby hospital – she did not make it.
As for Hapgood, NBC said he had wounds that appeared to be consistent with self-infliction.
Currently, reports said Hapgood is being held on a $1.5 million bond. No word yet on the motive.
