It was a penis that caused $10,000 worth of damage. That’s one expensive penis.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office plan to file charges against a 50-year-old woman, her 16-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old male who were allegedly responsible for using weed killer to burn a “very inappropriate, disgusting symbol” on a Michigan high school football field over Labor Day weekend.
In addition to the 100-yard phallus, two smaller penises, some testicles and what appeared to be “2016” were burned on the Bedford High School football field. The estimated $10,000 worth of damage forced the school to relocate a bunch of scheduled football games and other activities while crews worked to repair the field.
“It’s ridiculous. I’m sure the individuals involved probably had no idea the impact, but it’s just absolutely ridiculous,” Superintendent Mark Kleinhans said.
Why would anyone — especially a parent — do such a ridiculous thing?
Detroit Free Press reports that the vandals were pulling a prank. And not even an original one. The trio was allegedly trying to emulate a similar prank they saw online, although they did not specify which one.
There have been two notable penis-on-football field incidents in previous years — one at Nature Coast Technical High School in Brooksville, Florida, prior to graduation and one on a Hazleton, Pennsylvania field back in 2007.
“Deputies will seek criminal charges against the woman and two juveniles for the damage. The woman could be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor,” Monroe County sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Jeff Paul said in a statement.
Authorities ask anyone with further information about the football phallus to call Deputy Jeremy Lestock, the Bedford school district’s resource officer, or the Monroe County sheriff’s detective bureau, 734-240-7530.
