Who Set 19-Year-Old Jessica Chambers On Fire And Left Her For Dead?

The murder of 19-year-old Jessica Chambers has left a small town in Mississippi rattled, a family desperate for answers and investigators hunting down clues to find her killer. A candlelight vigil is set for Friday night, and Jessica will be laid to rest on Saturday.

On December 6, just after 8 p.m. police said they received a 911 call from a person reporting a car fire in Courtland, MS. When firefighters arrived, they not only found a car up in flames, but they had a person walking toward them who was horrifically burned all over her body.

Authorities said that person who was walking toward first responders, and charred beyond recognition was Jessica, and she was still alive. She was able to communicate with first responders, but investigators are not revealing what she told them.

After being flown out to local hospital, Jessica soon died.

Since someone lit Jessica on fire on a rural Mississippi road, the district attorney’s office and investigators have been teaming up to figure out Jessica’s last steps and who would want to do such a unthinkable act to the former cheerleader.

Authorities know about ninety minutes prior to Jessica being found on a back road, she stopped by a convenience store to get gas. She was seen on surveillance tape. After that stop, she may have gone to meet friends. A friend of Jessica’s, Charlotte Wilkerson, spoke out to NBC sand said “There was a party going on and she was there. When she left the party, that’s when it happened to her.”

Jessica’s mother also spoke out to NBC and said she will not rest until her daughter’s killer is caught.

Ben Chambers, Jessica’s father, is a mechanic for the Panola County Sheriff’s Office. Chambers spoke out to WIS-TV and said he knows his co-workers will find the person or persons who did this act to his daughter, “I’ve seen a lot in different cases that it takes time, you know, everything don’t happen overnight. I’ve got faith in them, we’ve got one of the most wonderful sheriffs in the world.”
