Remember that ’80s song, “It’s Raining Men?”
Well, it turns out the weather forecast in Lurgan, Ireland, was cloudy with a chance of of manfall—at least that’s how a drunk woman explained her car being driven without her consent.
When 26-year-old Angelika Wierzchowska was accused of driving her vehicle while intoxicated and then smashing into a parked car, she smiled and laughed.
However, after being pressed by police, the woman said she wasn’t responsible for the accident. Instead, it was caused by a man who fell from the sky, drove her car, smashed it, and then disappeared after the crash.
With the keys in her lap and alcohol on her breath, Wierzchowska was given a breathalyzer test at the police station and it revealed a reading of 104 when the legal limit is 35.
The defendant has two previous traffic offenses: One for aggravated vehicle taking in 2008, and another for driving without insurance in 2013.
After appearing last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court, Wierzchowska was sentenced to three months in prison. On top of that, her license was suspended for two years and she was banned from driving for 18 months.
Because the woman didn’t have insurance, nor did she report the accident, she will serve concurrent two month terms, in addition to the driving suspension and ban.
If only she could have provided proof that the man from the sky did it.
