UPDATE, July 6, 2015:

Investigators are still trying to determine the identify of a toddler who was found dead in a trash bag on a Boston Harbor beach last week. “Who she is and where she’s from remain a mystery to us,” noted Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley in this CNN article.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited children released a computer-generated image of what the child, believed to have been 4 years old when she died, might have looked like. Now police are desperately seeking the public’s help in identifying the child was and who her family is, and in giving her a proper burial.

Her body reportedly showed no signs of trauma, and she was found with a zebra-striped blanket and polka dot leggings (below).

“I think we all know she’s a beautiful child,” said Conley. “(S)he deserves dignity.”

Original Story:

A woman walking her dog found a 4-year-old girl inside a plastic bag on Deer Island beach on Boston Harbor last Thursday, and authorities are still trying to figure out who the child is. According to the Boston Globe, no children have been reported missing and no one has contacted police or first responders about her.

Investigators have not yet revealed how the child died, but they know she had long brown hair and brown eyes, was wearing pajamas, and she stood 3 feet 6 inches tall, the report said. Authorities also believe she weighed 30 pounds, which is average for her size. Her ethnicity is still undetermine, but forensic artists are working on a drawing to be distributed.

David Procopio with the State Police told the Boston Globe that authorities are working to figure out whether the child was abandoned by someone or if she was dumped in the water, with her body later washing ashore.

Investigators are encouraging people to come forward if they know of a family who may be missing a family member. Though the investigation is currently focused in the Boston area, it’s possible she came from another state.

Paul McCluskey was in the area when the body was found and he left a pot of yellow chrysanthemums on site. He went on to say, “It’s just unfortunate because it’s such a nice, tranquil place.”
