Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter E’dena Hines, 33, was stabbed to death outside her NYC apartment early Sunday morning. Her live-in boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, 30, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for her death.
Hines, a Broadway actress, was found lying outside her building in Washington Heights with 16 stab wounds, according to the NY Post.
TMZ reports that Davenport — who also performs as a rapper under the stage name Lyric — was heard ranting about religion before the stabbing occurred. The woman’s tragic death appears to have been an attempted exorcism of sorts. A man who witnessed the murder from his third-floor apartment said Davenport yelled, “Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!” as he attacked Hines.
According to FoxNews, “police officers had to physically restrain Davenport from continuing his attack and further brutalizing Hines’ lifeless body. A police source told the Post that the suspect ‘was still making a stabbing motion with his arm, but he had nothing in his fist — the knife was jutting out of her chest.'”
Davenport has been arrested multiple times before and has had documented issues with drugs. It’s believed he was in some kind of drug-fueled psychosis at the time he allegedly killed Hines.
Morgan Freeman’s first wife was Hines’ grandmother. He had this to say: “The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
