According to the Associated Press, 10 of Jared Fogle’s victims have recently received a total of $1 million in restitution since the former Subway spokesman agreed to plead guilty on sex crimes and child porn charges. Another four of his victims should be paid out by the time he’s sentenced next month. (It is apparently a very rare move for sex-crimes victims to receive restitution before sentencing is complete.)
Fogle is due for sentencing on Nov. 19, and will face a minimum of five years in prison for his disturbing crimes. The money given to his victims will cover mental health costs and other expenses, and help them “go on with their lives and put them where they should have been had none of this happened,” according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven DeBrota.
In August, after Fogle signed his plea deal, his attorney Jeremy Margolis said in a statement that “Jared fully recognizes that such monetary contribution will not undo the harm he has caused” but does hope it can assist“these individuals as they try to move forward with their lives.”
We hope so too.
