It only took a Houston jury an hour to deliberate before they handed down a guilty verdict against David Wilson for sexually molesting two girls. Having already spent four years in prison for molesting a minor in 2005, Wilson was charged with super aggravated sexual assault against his 23-month-old niece after the toddler was diagnosed with HIV, genital herpes and chlamydia in November 2015. The adults in the home where the child lived were all tested for HIV, and only Wilson came back positive.
According to ABC News, “A doctor told investigators that she had to have been sexually abused because of the sexually transmitted diseases that were detected.” The child had to have reconstructive surgery because of the damage caused by the infection.
As if that wasn’t horrific enough, a 14-year-old victim also came forward and told a caseworker at Houston’s Children’s Assessment Center that she had been having sex for two years with a man she identified as Wilson, and had become pregnant. Like Wilson’s niece, medical tests proved that the teen had also contracted HIV, herpes and chlamydia.
During the punishment phase of the trial, Wilson took the stand to give “both sides” of the story to the jury, telling them he was in love with the teen.
“I am not sorry we were together, no, I am sorry the HIV came into the situation,” Wilson said.
In the end, the jury was utterly unmoved, sentencing Wilson to life in prison.
