Investigators in Tampa, Florida, say they are working a murder case involving a woman who was found dead in the trunk of a man’s vehicle. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a residence by a man who said he arrived home and discovered throughout the house. The man, who has not been identified, said he also could not locate the two individuals who rented rooms from him.
A little more than three hours later, WFLA reports, deputies located Kyle Weldon, one of the roommates, and found what appeared to be blood on Weldon’s clothing and hands. After further investigation, the sheriff’s office said the trail of blood led them to the trunk of Weldon’s vehicle, where they found the body of Tina Ryan, the third roommate. Her cause of death will not be determined until the autopsy is complete. Investigators said they arrested Weldon at the scene and he’s since been charged with second-degree murder.
WFLA interviewed Joanne O’Brien, a neighbor, who said she spoke with Ryan only a few days ago.
“When you just talk to somebody and something like this happens… you think, ‘What could I have done to help her?’” O’Brien added Ryan confided in her that she was arguing with her “man friend.”
Ronald Keith, who is Ryan’s brother-in-law, confirmed that Weldon was Ryan’s boyfriend.
“It’s just horrible because she was a very good person but she just hit a very bad patch,” Keith said, implying that Ryan had been through tough times.
It’s unclear if Weldon has retained an attorney or if he has a past criminal history. Investigators told WFLA that they had responded to a domestic violence call at the residence earlier in the year, but no charges were filed, as it was just a verbal altercation, not physical.
