A Florida lawyer has been disbarred for going WAY beyond the call of duty for her clients — by engaging in sexual activity during jail visitations, having phone sex with inmates and renting cars in exchange for drugs. According to the Florida Bar Association, Daytona Beach public defender Linda Dawn Hadad, 43, was disbarred from practicing law in the state because she “engaged in a pattern of misconduct that included illegal drug use and sexual relationships with clients.”
According to court documents cited by the New York Daily News, Hadad admitted to taking “Xanax, Adderall, oxycodone and Lortabs with no prescription and also used cocaine, crack, ecstasy, marijuana, meth and acid.” The documents also allege that Hadad once tried to make contact with a domestic violence victim on behalf of her client, who was barred by a no-contract order. While Hadad was allegedly, ahem, readily available for some of her clients in certain ways, the documents claim she came up short as a legal representative by missing or showing up late for at least five court appearances and neglecting many of her cases.
According to the NY Daily News, Hadad, who began practicing law in 2002, has been arrested five times since 2010 on charges such as driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and petty theft. The final straw for both the court system and the Florida Bar Association came in August 2015, when Hadad was arrested for fleeing from police when they tried to pull her over for expired tags. Hadad entered a no contest plea and was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to complete 90 days of in-patient rehab.
