Police allege that between June 2014 and April 2016 (when Facebook reported “Rae Pelletier”‘s account to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children), Douglas Le, 25, had exploited at least nine teenage boys between the ages of 14 and 16 from area schools with his little scheme. A few reports indicate that more than one of the victims had been students in his own chemistry class at Gilroy High. Le is believed to have lured the students into exchanging messages, as well as explicit images and videos, via Facebook’s messenger function.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded Facebook’s notification to Silicon Valley’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Authorities searched Le’s home on April 26, 2016, and seized computers, hard drives, and unidentified other media. Le was also arrested that day at the school. He has been charged with annoying or molesting a child, possession of matter depicting a minor engaging or simulating sexual conduct, nine counts of sending harmful matter to a minor, and nine counts of communicating with a minor with the intent to commit specified crime. All charges are felonies. Le faces more than eight years in prison if he is convicted. Le had been out on $50,000 bail, but after his arraignment earlier this week, the judge ordered him back into custody and raised the bail to $475,000. His next court date is reportedly July 20.
