A Philadelphia man is behind bars after being arrested for allegedly fatally shooting a woman in the chest with a crossbow.

A bolt from the crossbow, which Wikipedia defines as “a type of weapon based on the bow and consisting of a horizontal bow-like assembly mounted on a stock,” traveled through the woman’s chest and a couch before it penetrated a wall. NBC Philadelphia reports the 42-year-old victim (identified by CBS Philadelphia as Pamela Nightlinger, who was either the man’s girlfriend or wife) stumbled to a neighbor’s house for help and was discovered in a pool of blood Sunday night. She died at a local hospital shortly thereafter.

Police claimed they were called to the Northeast Philadelphia residence several times in the past for domestic violence-related incidents. Philadelphia Police Capt. Anthony Ginaldi told NBC Philadelphia: “Neighbors say things for him appeared to go downhill recently, in the last month or so.”

The boyfriend and alleged killer has not yet been publicly identified.
