Authorities in Oklahoma allege that a 49-year-old mother killed her 33-year-old daughter by shoving a crucifix down her throat after becoming convinced that she was possessed. According to News 9, Juanita Gomez is facing a first-degree murder charge, and her bond was denied by a judge.
The news station showed portions of video taken at Gomez’s arraignment where the suspect was quite vocal with her complaints about conditions inside the jail, including not having access to toilet paper. She also said she didn’t need a public defender because she had an attorney, though it’s unclear who that attorney is and whether she really has legal representation. Gomez was removed from the courtroom by an officer as she continued to try to speak to the judge.
According to KFOR, when investigators arrived at the Oklahoma City home on Saturday for a welfare check, they found Geneva Gomez bleeding on the floor with a “large crucifix” on her chest. Juanita Gomez was inside the house as well and told investigators her daughter was possessed by the devil. The victim had a number of injuries, according to the report, including severe trauma on her head and hands.
According to court documents obtained by KFOR, Juanita Gomez “forced a crucifix and religious medallion down her throat until blood came out of her daughter’s mouth. Juanita saw her daughter die and then placed her body in the shape of a cross.”
As for the significant injuries to the victim’s hands, Gomez claims it was from fighting off Satan as he exited her body, and reportedly admitted to arranging her daughter’s dead body into a cross formation. She has a past criminal history including gun and drug charges, News 9 adds.
Neighbors told the news station that they never noticed a problem between the mother and daughter. Mourners have been showing their condolences by leaving candles and a rosary on the stairs to the home.
