  • A Florida man was sent to jail on a domestic-battery charge after slapping his girlfriend in the face with a sex toy, according to police. Micah Norman (above), 34, was arrested Saturday evening following a confrontation with his live-in girlfriend at a residence in Madeira Beach. According to a criminal complaint, Norman was arguing with the 29-year-old victim at around 10:20 P.M. when he grabbed her and hit her “in the face with a sex toy.” Norman was charged with domestic battery, a misdemeanor — and a judge has ordered him to have no contact with the victim. [The Smoking Gun]
  • New details have emerged about the Georgia woman who was shot and killed on September 25 as she drove through Atlanta with her husband and best friend. A friend of Diane McIver, 63, said that her husband Claud “Tex” McIver had placed the .38 caliber revolver in his lap because the couple were afraid of Black Lives Matter protesters, when they hit a bump and it went off accidentally. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McIver’s husband was sitting directly behind her in the backseat as her best friend drove. Atlanta police have said the shooting was “more complicated” and they are investigating it as a homicide. [CBS News]
  • The dramatic arrest of one of Italy’s most-wanted fugitive mob bosses after five years on the run has been captured on video. Police found Antonio Pelle, 54, hiding on top of an armoire in a homemade bunker at his home in southern Reggio Calabria. Pelle, known as “Mamma,” was serving a 20-year prison sentence for mafia association, arms and drug trafficking when he slipped out of a hospital in September 2011. Pelle is considered to be the boss of the Pelle-Romeo clan of San Luca, in Italy’s southern Calabria region, authorities say. [Ruptly/YouTube]

  • A devout Muslim has been jailed after stabbing his wife to death because her job required her to look after men. Imran Khan texted his care-worker wife a string of threatening messages before stabbing her eight times with a kitchen knife, police say. The 38-year-old allegedly believed that his wife was disobeying Islamic law and warned her that her position made him “angry.” The couple wed in 1999, when the killer’s family forced him to go to Pakistan for the marriage.     • Dennis Tito, the first millionaire to buy his way into Earth orbit as a tourist, has been accused of discrimination and harassment by a female employee. Cynthia Loo, who is reportedly the only woman or minority to be an officer or board member of his firm, Wilshire Associates, claimed in a discrimination lawsuit filed October 4 that the company fired her as president of the company’s analytics division because Tito had decided that, at over 55, she was too old. Loo also accuses the defendants of harassing her and discriminating against her based on her gender and race.     • An emergency hazardous-materials response team from Fayetteville, North Carolina, found a dead body in a car on Monday night. Responders were dispatched at around 11:45 P.M. to the Food Lion parking lot located on US Highway 1 in Aberdeen, and found a note on the car telling whoever found the person not to open the vehicle because cyanide salts had been used. Inside the car they found the body of the 44-year-old victim from Southern Pines. Officials say the victim will be transported to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. [Aberdeen Times]
    • A West Midlands, England, police officer who sexually assaulted two women has been sentenced to four years behind bars. PC Steven Walters, 48, left his victims suffering panic attacks, anxiety, and depression after carrying out his attacks while he was on duty, according to testimony heard in Stafford Crown Court. Walters attacked one of the women in her own home, and assaulted the other victim in his police car after offering her a lift late at night. Walters was reportedly confident that his victims would not report him due to his position on the force. [DailyMail.com]
    • A former South Dakota police chief has been found guilty of murdering his wife. On Monday, seven years after the death of Leonila Stickney, a jury found her husband Bertram Stickney, 64, guilty of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say that Bertram, who had once served as police chief in Harrisburg, murdered his wife in order to claim $900,000 worth of insurance money — and was also allegedly angry because he discovered she was pregnant with another man’s child.[People.com]
