MEDFORD, MA — Authorities arrested an unidentified man armed with an ax outside Medford radio station KISS 108 on Monday. The suspect had shown up to request the song “My Axe” by Insane Clown Posse. A three-hour standoff with police followed.
The 38-year-old ICP fan sat inside his car in the KISS 108 parking lot and informed passersby that he wanted to hear “My Axe.” He then took out a machete, approached a station employee, and said, “I want you to play a song for me.”
Witnesses called 911 immediately and heavily armed officers swarmed the area.
From there, the man sat in his vehicle drinking beer and appearing to huff a substance out of a paper bag. In addition to the machete, the car visibly contained other bladed weapons, including multiple knives and — oh, yes — an ax.
At one point, the man exited his car. Police attempted to subdue the suspect at first with physical contact, then with a Taser and a beanbag gun. Nothing worked. The negotiator even requested that the radio station just play the song to help quell the situation.
An onlooker said the man told the cops, “You’re just going to have to kill me then.”
Three hours of negotiations led to a peaceful resolution with no injuries except for a few minor cuts on the suspect’s arms that came from handling his own weapons. The assumed Juggalo was taken in for psychiatric evaluation.
It’s unknown if KISS 108 ever got around to spinning “My Axe.”
