MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA — The parents of an aspiring model from Hollis, Queens, are searching for clues on the island of Jamaica where their daughter’s body was found on an isolated rural road over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The body of Desiree Gibbon, 26, a former beauty contestant, was found last Sunday in bushes in Anchovy. Her throat had reportedly been slashed, and she was covered with bruises.
Gibbon was spending a month staying at a hotel her grandmother owns in Montego Bay.
Jamaica Constabulary Force Supt. Michael Phipps said investigators believe Gibbon partied with a mysterious acquaintance the night before her body was found. Investigators have told a local newspaper that they are looking for a man known as “Rasta.”
No arrests have yet been made, and the police have not commented on a suspected motive.
Gibbon’s family have stated that she had left the resort where she had been staying without her purse, money, or identification documents — which also led them to believe that she may have known her attacker. Her father, who is Jamaican, told the Jamaica Observer newspaper that she “had to have been lured from that hotel because she had nothing on her.”
Gibbon’s family has crowd-funded over $32,000 online in order to raise money to travel to the island to retrieve her body for burial in New York.
