BROCKTON, MA — A Massachusetts mother of five who allegedly stabbed her two young sons to death may have been seeking money and fame, according to prosecutors.

An autopsy showed that Latarsha L. Sanders, 43, stabbed her eight-year-old son, Edson Brito, 76 times, according to the Enterprise. Prosecutors say she attacked the boy with a kitchen knife as part of a “voodoo ritual.”

Then she turned on his younger brother, five-year-old La’son Brito, stabbing him 23 times before inserting a candle into his throat. He also had 80 superficial wounds on his body.

It came out ‘wrong’ with the first one, and for that reason she had to move on to the second child,” assistant Plymouth County District Attorney Jessica Kenny said.

Kenny told a judge that Sanders wrote about setting up GoFundMe campaigns for members of her family in her journal, the Enterprise reported. The District Attorney also said that Sanders had set up a P.O. box to receive “fan mail.”

“The indication from the notebook is that she anticipated money coming in and set up the P.O. box to receive fan mail,” Kenny said.

Sanders’ mother said her daughter was obsessed with the Illuminati and mentally unstable, according to the Associated Press.

Sanders, who has pleaded not guilty to murder charges and is being held without bail, has also reportedly encouraged friends and family to do media interviews while she is incarcerated.
