HENRICO, VA — Steven Pladl, a North Carolina man who married and fathered a child with his own daughter, apparently killed that daughter, their baby, and his daughter’s adoptive dad before turning the gun on himself.
In September 2017, authorities in Virginia charged Pladl, 42, and his biological daughter, Katie Rose Pladl, 20, with incest after Katie gave birth to the couple’s son, Bennett Pladl.
Now investigators say Steven kicked off his horrific run on Thursday morning by fatally shooting seven-month-old Bennett. Officers discovered the baby’s body after Steven’s mother called 911 requesting a welfare check.
From there, Steven apparently drove to Connecticut, where he opened fire and killed Katie and her adoptive father Anthony Fusco, 56, in a pickup truck.
Finally, officers discovered Steven inside a parked mini-van in Dover, New York. He was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
On a 911 tape obtained by the press, Steven’s mother states that her son admitted to killing Katie and baby Bennett. According to the transcript, she says:
“Oh God, he told me to call the police and I shouldn’t go over there. He killed his baby and he’s [the baby] in the house. His wife broke up with him over the phone yesterday… I can’t even believe this is happening.”
Steven Pladl did not have contact with his daughter Katie while she was growing up. They met again when Katie was an adult and apparently commenced an incestuous relationship. The couple got married in July 2017. Bennett, their son, was born that September.
On March 16, a judge released Steven Pladl on bond under the condition that he was not allowed contact with Katie Pladl or his two children who lived with her in Henrico, Virginia.
As a result, Steven could no longer reside at the 106 Earlston Court home he shared with Katie — the very home where he killed baby Bennett on Thursday.
Details of this tragic story are continuing to develop.
