LOS ANGELES, CA — Redmond O’Neal, the 33-year-old son of Hollywood icons Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, has been charged with attempted murder in an alleged L.A.-county crime spree last month.
Investigators say O’Neal “randomly” punched five victims and stabbed two of them in the days leading up to his robbing a 7-Eleven with a knife.
O’Neal, who notoriously has a long history of drug and legal troubles, was charged on Friday while being held without bail over the May 8 convenience-store robbery in Venice. Police now say that the knifepoint stick-up was actually the end of O’Neal’s crime spree, which began six days prior.
Authorities allege that the one-man crime wave began on the night of May 2, when O’Neal is said to have argued with a stranger and punched the man. Just hours later, at 3:30 A.M. on May 3, O’Neal reportedly got into a dispute with another stranger, which also led to fisticuffs.
On May 4, police claim O’Neal stabbed a man on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Hours later, O’Neal reportedly stabbed a second Venice man in the face and upper body and left him lying in a pool of blood. Police say surveillance shows O’Neal in the area at that time.
The following day, O’Neal allegedly got into a fight at a coffee shop and threatened staffers with a knife.
LAPD Sergeant Scotty Steven said investigators connected the crime while O’Neal was in custody at Men’s Central Jail, stating:
“They all seem to be random. It appears, though, based on what we know now, that it just started as an argument between unknown persons and quickly escalated with the violent acts.”
Since 2008, O’Neal has been arrested multiple times for drug possession, and did a prison stretch in 2015.
Apparently, O’Neal blames growing up with famous parents for his issues, telling the press:
“It’s not drugs that have been a problem, it’s the psychological trauma of my entire life….
Fighting with my father, being kicked out and living on the streets, going to jail, being put in a psychiatric ward, being embarrassed all the time, just because of who my parents are.
The pressure that came with that set off a time bomb in my head. I never asked for any of this, I never wanted any attention.”
The heavily tattooed O’Neal says he has “lost all hope” and sports ink on his left hand that spells out, “F—K LIFE.”
Redmond O’Neal now faces one count of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of criminal threats, one count of brandishing a knife, and one count of battery.
O’Neal is being held without bail and is scheduled to next appear in court on July 10.
