NEW YORK, NY — The girlfriend of a New York securities broker set his clothes on fire because she thought that he was cheating on her, a court heard.
Ardita Dajbabic, 25, torched her boyfriend Enver Alijaj’s clothes on April 22, according to the New York Post.
The New York City Fire Department was called to put out the blaze at Alijai’s $1.6 million condominium at 75 Wall Street.
Dajbabic was charged with reckless endangerment and arson. Because she had her one-year-old son with her during the incident, she was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The New York City Fire Department were called out to extinguish the blaze at his luxury, $1.6 million 75 Wall Street condominium.
Dajbabic allegedly admitted the crime at the time, saying: “I thought he was cheating on me so I lit his clothes on fire.”
Last week, Dajbabic rejected a plea deal at Manhattan Criminal Court. She’ll face her charges later this month.
This is not the first time that the couple has made headlines. In 2015, Alijaj, 42, was hit with 14 complaints after allegedly making risky trades with his clients’ multimillion-dollar accounts while a broker for JHS Capital.
He was accused of causing $16 million in damages for the trades. FINRA records show that he was banned from working as a broker in 2014.
